#465: The Best of the Classic Years [2003]

Rolling Stone has really taken a pickaxe to reggae over the past couple of years. Just look at Bob Marley! In 2003, five Marley records made the list, which went down to only 3 in 2020. In the latest mini-update another is sacrificed, but at least we get this album as a replacement of sorts. Now, I don’t know much about reggae, so I can't comment too deeply on the quality of Red. I do know that legendary reggae and dub producers Sly and Robbie were involved, which is probably how this album successfully straddles the line between repetitive and consistent. Supposedly, this album has more electronic influences, but I don't really hear that, so maybe it's in the high production quality where Sly and Robbie's influence is most felt. I don't know any patois either, so I don't know what they're singing about. Probably my least informative review yet, but I liked the record! 2.9/5.
